Last weekend H was at his Dad’s and then they went to London together so I had some child free time until Tuesday. I went out on the Saturday night with some friends and spent the rest of the time either catching up or trying to get ahead as H has a two week half term (because he missed a week of his summer holidays). I managed to fit in a swim and my German class too, so that was good. H seemed to have a good time on his trip too. My mum seems better than last week so that was good news too.
On Wednesday we went to the Sea Life Centre in Birmingham to see their Halloween offering. We’ve been quite a lot over the years and H is a bit of a marine expert.
On Thursday we went to the preview of the scary Halloween event at Birmingham Botanical Gardens. H really enjoyed that and we went with a friend of his, so the boys were able to enjoy it together.
Sadly though some bad news overshadowed the week and I really will be glad to see back of this October as it has brought little apart from stress, worry and now grief. At the weekend my cat Bracken started to feel under the weather, it progressed beyond that and by Monday she was really struggling. On Tuesday she died. She was 16 years old and had lived a good life. She was always a happy, friendly cat and was kitten-like almost to the end. We are all missing her. H is sad he didn’t get to say goodbye. My other cat Amber (a boy cat despite the name), also 16 (we had them together as kittens), is missing his lifelong friend and companion – he’s been super clingy. I don’t think we can quite believe she’s gone, especially as she was by far the healthier of the two cats, as Amber has asthma and a heart murmur.
