There’s a great deal to appreciate about the South-West of England. It’s the home of incredible cathedrals, amazing beaches, sprawling natural beauty, and plenty of sun during the summer. If you’re looking to raise a family, in other words, it’s an ideal location for a new home.
Many families have made the move, and many more are considering it. But exactly what is it that makes life in the South West so appealing?
Booming family-oriented housing developments
To begin with, homes in the region are more affordable, especially when compared with London and other areas of the south. You might consider the new homes being built in Taunton, as part of a ninety-home development. These come equipped with modern features like solar panels and integrated charging for electric vehicles. The broadband infrastructure in the area has vastly improved over the last few decades, too.
Strong community feel & quality of life
Towns and villages in Somerset are frequently cited among the UK’s best places to live. For example, Chew Valley was recently singled out by The Times as the South West’s best locations. Somerset, and the region more widely, offers an array of excellent schools, as well as incredible food producers and restaurants. There are also major cultural events, like the Glastonbury Festival, and a few minor ones, too.
Great transport links and flexible commuting
Despite the sense of peace and seclusion you might enjoy in this predominantly rural part of the country, parts of the South West are actually very well connected. Taunton, Wellington, and Bridgwater offer easy access to the M5, meaning that residents here can easily move up and down the western flank of the country, to Bristol, Birmingham, Liverpool and beyond.
The co-operative rail operator Go-op has also recently announced new services to link much of the region. As such, if you’re spending a portion of your working time at home, and a little more of it further afield, this part of the country might be viable in a way that others are not.
Healthier surroundings & outdoor lifestyle
There’s something to be said for the wellness benefits of life in the South West. You’re within touching distance of the Exmoor National Park, as well as a multitude of quality beaches and coastal hiking trails. If you make these things part of your weekly routine, then the chances are good that you’ll enjoy considerable mental health benefits.
Since the pandemic, the appeal of an outdoor lifestyle has become difficult to ignore. Life in the South West can provide just such a thing for you and your family!
