It’s been another busy week for both of us. H and I have been continuing to struggle a little with the transition to secondary. Socially and academically all seems fine, but he is exhausted. I’ve been trying to get used to a change of routine. We are now very busy in the mornings with about an hour less time and more to do in it. Evenings are a balancing act between relaxation, homework and getting ready for the next day.
Alongside this I’ve been continuing to organise H’s room. The carpet went down this week which is the main change. In the background though I did an IKEA trip and took delivery of some parcels. I’ve said he can move back in on Monday, so I will need to do some work on it over the weekend and I have the handyman coming to finish off on Monday. It won’t be quite the finished room even then. It will take us a while to sort through which toys and clothes are going back. I’m hoping we can thin things out a bit. H has plans to start a steampunk collection of sorts and he wants to have some models for his room. I’m not quite sure how we are going to display them yet.
I’ve taken a lot of photos this week for one particular project, but I’m not going to share them all with you as I am saving them up for another blog post. Here’s one though. We’ve had to go back onto packed lunches because of lunchtime canteen queues, so I’ve had plenty of chance to make packed lunches for the post I’ve been working on.
Aside from that it’s been back to normal this week in many ways. Back to my German class for me and back to swimming for H. It should have been back to Scouts too, but we had the carpet fitted the evening that Scouts was on. I’ve been doing more on my newly extended fitness regime and this week I did a swim, 2 yoga classes and a walk in the countryside. I missed my second swim of the week because I had to take Mum to the hospital, on the morning I would usually have been. That’s ok though as I’ve set up 5 fitness activities a week, so that I can afford to drop one and not worry if something crops up.
Good to hear that H’s room is making good progress and that you’re getting into a good fitness routine. I hope things settle down with secondary school too. It is a big change. I remember feeling like I’d been hit by a truck when my younger son started – because suddenly we had three schools to deal with!
Schools can never cope with lunchtime queues can they. N’s school only probably has 60 kids eating hot lunches, but he says they still queue for a long time
Ahh! My girl is shattered by the end of the week….I put it all down to all the walking around school they do. I hope your boy is struggling less soon. My youngest has been taking packed lunches too because she hates the queues in the lunch room too. The bedroom is looking great. I can’t wait to see it finished x
Ive had to put my daughter on packed lunches, she spends a fortune on food at school
looking forward to seeing the finished bedroom, hope school is settling down a little, so glad my pack lunch days are over
Gosh, you have been busy. I love the new decor in H’s room. He will get into a new routine soon.
Wishing you all the best with your fitness and German classes.
The room is looking so good and I can imagine the red going perfectly with the grey. Hope the next week is a lot easier on you both x
Hope the hospital appointment went ok.
Glad the room is getting near completion., you will be glad when it is done.
Secondary school is more tiring as they have to keep moving rooms and have so much more intense lessons than primary school was. I am sure things will work out right for him.
That is good news that H’s room is making good progress and that you’re getting into a fitness routine. Way better than I could ever do. It is so difficult to get into a routine with a different school and then having that wee bit more freedom. I am sure it will settle soon. Hugs xx
I hope the new schedule becomes easier for you both over the coming weeks, it’s such a big change all round isn’t it. Glad the room is coming together #365
Completely agree that evenings can turn into a balancing act…I am finding it hard as along with fitting in their clubs they also have arabic homework…..have to make sure we find some time to relax!
I know what you mean by hectic mornings, and now I need to get up even earlier as S is travelling to school next town. Evenings are also a blur, so much to do and prepare for the next day, it’s never ending, is it?
My guys have packed lunches too. S – because he won’t eat any of the school food, E refuses to eat in the school canteen as he says the tables are dirty.
New room for H sounds lovely. I’d love to see his steampunk collection, once it’s on display.
Sounds like a busy week, I love H’s new carpet, hopefully his body will adjust to the new routine soon and he will be less tired, it is a big transition from primary to comprehensive school, the homework is alot more and they have so many lessons to try to remember each day xx
