Well this week I had a meal out with friends to take advantage of Eat Out to Help Out. The local Turkish restaurant is always very popular and they wouldn’t allow booking. Everything seemed fine to begin with as whilst there was a long queue, it was moving quickly. When we got to the front though it slowed right down and we were waiting ages – it was one of those things that you kept thinking we are next and you don’t actually take the plunge and go elsewhere. They let in a couple of two people parties ahead of our group of four which was frustrating, although understandable.
The food was lovely, but we’d ordered a set meal for 5-6 between four of us. We found there was only just enough of the meat. We were offered a free top up of extra rice, but I think I’d have been disappointed if we had ordered that between 5 or 6 of us. It was great value with the money off, but I’m not sure I’ll be heading back again. I also wasn’t convinced about their covid measures – they took no details about us so how would they contact us if there was an outbreak? Cases are high in the local area, so it’s very possible someone could be there with the virus. The restaurant gets rave reviews on trip advisor though.
The nice thing was meeting up with friends and we went onto a local pub afterwards to join someone who couldn’t make it for the meal, so it was a very nice night out all round. It’s been so long since I’d done that sort of night out.
My summer bedding is in full bloom at the moment. I got most of these plants from Aldi and I’ve just bought my autumn bedding – how is it time for that already? I’ve never bought so many plants as I have this year and it’s been lovely to have so much colour. I’ve really appreciated it too as I’ve been out in the garden so much over the course of the spring and the summer. Not quite sure where to plant the autumn bedding – I’m running out of suitable pots, but the summer ones haven’t finished yet so don’t want to disturb them. I probably need to buy some more as I’ve been reusing the same ones for years, but they are starting to fall apart now or don’t look as good as they once did.
This year the garden has been so important to me. It’s been lovely to have my own safe space outside to sit out and enjoy the sun. It’s been great to have more home grown vegetables to enjoy and I’ve been able to make progress on my flower bed too. With so much sun around, I haven’t felt that I have missed out on a holiday either as sitting in the garden is much the same as sitting around a hotel pool (without the pool of course). Although I do want to get away somewhere before too long, but it will be somewhere within the UK. I’m missing exploring new places and seeing different things.
