The wet weather has made life a bit dull this week and meant that I couldn’t get on with the jobs I wanted to. I had a load of gardening planned, but couldn’t get on with it because of the rain. The last few days have been a bit better though and I’ve harvested some of the black currants and done some weeding, but loads more to do.
One good thing about the rain was the chance to capture this picture of a frog enjoying the makeshift ponds that had formed on my garden furniture cover. The amount of water that had collected in the folds was unbelievalable and this little fellow had clearly spotted a new place to hang out.
The other thing I have been doing a lot of recently is trying out new food. I recently won £60 to spend at the Mindful Chef. It didn’t go very far I have to say, but we did get three meals out of it. The food provided was top quality and the recipes I’ll use again. It was nice to have something a bit different to eat. I’ve also been trying out some premium ready meals on my food blog – this Thai green curry was one of those. Teenage boys aren’t always the most receptive creatures to new recipes sadly and I had about a 50% success rate with H. Thai green curry and a tofu dish proved unpopular, whilst the South African Beef Bobotie and the chicken and noodles stir fry were perfectly acceptable apparently.
My parasol arrived this week. I decided to splash out a bit and get something to provide a bit of shade in the garden, but I wanted it to look attractive too. I picked out this one online and it’s come from Germany this week. I haven’t gone for the pink version, it’s a zingy lime green instead. Next job is to assemble it and make sure it doesn’t fall over – it needs paving stones for the base which I may need to buy. I just hope we have the sort of weather in July and August so I can get good use out of it.
I finally got around to weeding some of garden today. The weather has been awful this past week.
I keep hearing about Mindful Chef but it does sound expensive. The meals you’ve made sound so good.
I hope you have some nice weather so you can try out your parasol x
I love the photo of the frog! The weather really has been miserable lately. It must have been nice to try out some new food. We are getting so tired of making and eating the same things all the time. Generally I love Thai food, but I’m with H on green curry! I’m not keen on it at all.
the irony of ordering a parasol while the frogs are enjoying the rain….
Ouch at 3 meals for £60, not something many of us could do very often. Shame H does not like them.
I heard about mindful chef, being quite expensive, but i like the look of the dish you made,i’ve been puutting buckets,in my garden,as my 2 waterbucks are nearly filled up,it’s a great way to get more water x
Ooh I quite like thai green curry – wouldn’t go down well here though. I need to get a new patio umbrella, because mice got to ours.
Nicely done on your Mindful Chef win, but shame it didn’t stretch too far! The Thai Green curry looks lovely, I do love a good curry! 🙂
What a fabulous capture of the frog – the weather has been perfect for them recently, but hopefully the sun will start to shine again soon! Hope you are all having a lovely week! Sim x
I haven’t done much gardening either due to the rain almost every day. I love seeing frogs, but haven’t seen any recently. Your little visitor looks cute.
My guys are the same, not very keen on trying new foods. But I think 50-50 in your case isn’t bad at all. 3 meals for £60 is on a pricey side. I’ve heard of the Mindful Chef, but haven’t tried it.
I love that photo of the frog, so cute. Well done on your win.
A good week for then! Apart from the weather! The photo of the frog is fantastic and the food looks delicious!
We’ve had occasional rain here as well and because of that there are hundreds of frogs on the street. Some of them ended up on my kitchen sink! My dogs are going crazy after them. Thai green curry looks delicious I definitely want to try it.
How lovely to see a frog. It’s a treat when nature visits!
Good luck with the parasol. They make quite a difference to a patio or garden.
Great capture of the frog!
Hope we get some sun so you can enjoy your new parasol
Love the photo of the frog. I could do with a parasol, but seems a waste to buy another one when ours will eventually come over from Dubai next year. The Mindful chef sounds a good idea but quite expensive
Love the photo of the frog. We’ve been trying new meals recently too and having a similar success rate with the children! How lovely that your parasol has now arrived and hope you manage to get good use out of it. #project366
That little frog how lovely to spot it! Glad you had some success getting your son to eat the meals you won. My eldest is less receptive to new foods, but my youngest eats much better. I think the weather is meant to be lovely for the next week days.
You’re so lucky to get a good picture of a frog!
Love the frog. We have loads at the moment. Must be the weather. My husband is South African, where did you get ready made babotie from? I would be keen to try it as I am too lazy to make it.

I cannot wait to see your parasol, ours has broken so need a new one but feeling a bit poor at the moment. Love your frog photo, we have a toad in our garden
If the weather ever stops raining, I will get some gardening done too. Is Mindful Chef expensive? The meals you’ve made sound so good. I hope the weather improves for you xx
