We were recently sent Mensa Academy for the Wii for review purposes. I’d already had a little sneak preview at BritMumsLive so I knew we were in for a treat. I love quizzes, memory games, etc. so this game seemed perfect for me.
We quickly got the game up and running without any hitches. There are different ways to play the game depending on whether you want to play alone or with the family.
There are three elements to choose from in solo mode:
- Play – where you work your way through a series of games level by level
- Coach – where the Professor gives you training in the different subjects of the game (Language, Numeracy, Logic, Visual and Memory)
- Mensa Test – The test covers 30 questions to be answered in 15 minutes.
If there is more than one player, in fact up to four players, then you can use the multi-player mode to compete against each other in the Brain Race and Brain Fighter multi-player section. The only downside with this was that we couldn’t find a way to play on equal terms. It would be good to have some sort of handicap system to level the playing field between adults and children.
I liked it as a game and it’s great to have one that taxes the brain cells and appeals to all members of the family. H found a number of the activities quite difficult as, at 5, he hasn’t got the knowledge or skills needed. This game should help him learn some of them, but he was able to play the memory games well without those skills.

We are always looking for new wii games that all 4 of us can play at once. I love the educational element to this game. Wii, imo, is the best gaming system on the market for families
