I’ve been a fan of Laura Ashley for so many years. I bought my first ball dress there when I was sixteen and I have had so many pretty dresses, plus other wardrobe staples from Laura Ashley over the years. When I bought my first home I got curtains from them and for my second home when I had more cash, I bought a lot of their furniture (much of which I am still using 16 or 17 years later) and more yet curtains. So when I was invited to try out the newly launched Laura Ashley Tea Rooms at The Regency Hotel, Solihull, I leapt at the chance.
As you might expect the decor is all Laura Ashley. It’s a lovely way to showcase their home collections and I have my eye on that wallpaper now for my living room. There are lots of lovely elegant touches and it’s a very comfortable place to spend a few hours.
We were given a choice of teas from the menu and we both (me and my mum) opted for English Breakfast Tea. There were some more adventurous options and I did try the jasmine tea balls later on. They refill your pot so you won’t go thirsty.
Before we started on our tiers of sandwiches, scones and cakes, we were treated to some other little goodies. We started with a velouté. Next up was the most exquisite savoury ‘ice cream style’ cone with goats cheese and beetroot – very moreish.
The sandwiches were freshly made and filled with a range of fillings like smoked salmon with marinated dill; ham with mustard; and egg mayonnaise. There were two scones each: one plain and one fruity. A generous pot of clotted cream and one of jam were provided so that you could load your scones up as much as you wanted.
The final layer of our cake stand was divine. There was a very rich, but very yummy coffee and walnut cake. The Laura Ashley pudding was full of berry flavour. I loved the rich, bitter, dark chocolate too. We were starting to struggle though and we were very pleased to be able to take home the last few pieces that we couldn’t manage for a treat later.
I was really impressed by the afternoon tea at the Laura Ashley Tea Rooms, Solihull and I think I’ll be going back. Mum was very keen too and is planning to recommend them to everyone too.
