Sometimes it’s difficult to know how to improve your home. You most likely know that an area isn’t working that well, but do you know what to do to improve it. Sometimes you can just focus on one area in a room and turn it all around. This is a look at some home improvement ideas that don’t involve a complete makeover of a room or a space. Instead I’ll home in a few key areas that can turn around the way you feel about the place you live.
Reinstate a fireplace
A fireplace is a wonderful focal point to any room. But sadly they did go out of fashion which lead to many homeowners ripping them out. So if you have a chimney breast that is looking rather bare, why not reintroduce one? So much better than a TV as a focal point, and could bring back all the character your home has been lacking.
A key part of reinstating a fireplace is making sure the chimney is functioning well. Make sure you get a specialist to check out the chimney construction including the liner and clean it too. You might need heat tape for any pipework.
Don’t neglect your stairs
Your staircase connects different parts of your house, so it will be seen from different view points. Stairs are often the first thing you see when you walk in a house. Make it a focal point of your home by giving it a bit of a make over. Update a shabby stair carpet with a smart and stylish stair runner.
Remember your outside space
Your garden can act like another room, so make it feel as comfortable as one. Think about creating areas to sit and relax, just like you would inside your home. Pick out a stylish addition or two like an outdoor lounge chair to make your garden a desirable place to spend time.
Make a good first impression
Take a critical look at your front door. A coat of paint can work wonders, but if your front door has had its day, consider investing in a new one to make a great first impression. Make sure your porch area is welcoming too. Clear out any clutter and replace door mats and other items to create a desirable entrance space.
Have good storage
Clutter drags you and your home down. You can never have too much storage space, so make the most of every inch. If you have awkward spaces, make them most of them with bespoke shelving. Made to measure storage can be adapted to whatever style your room is and whatever the dimensions of the space. Make the most of your alcoves, to tricky corners ? and every nook and cranny in-between.
