Father’s Day is the one day a year where we really think about showing our appreciation for our dads. But, we all know that dads are notoriously difficult to buy for and it can be tricky to come up with the right gift. So I’ve come up with a few ideas to share with you which I hope will help you in your search.
Something for the Man Cave
Does your dad have somewhere that he escapes to? A place to call his own? Maybe a shed or a workshop or a study? A lovely gift idea this Father’s Day is to pick out some artwork for him to hang on his walls and make the place look more welcoming. I’m loving these UK maps from Maps International. They come in a range of sizes and finishes, as well as a wide choice of colours. You should be able to find one to suit pretty much any space.
Something to Wear
You can’t go wrong with a classic T. I love this Puma Classics T Shirt in dark green. It really does look smart and would look great with jeans. Another favourite brand is Levis and I love that they have teamed up with Peanuts to bring us this super cute Levis X Peanuts Snoopy Logo T Shirt. In classic white, this T can be matched up with just about everything. Mainline Menswear have a great range to choose from and prices are very reasonable too.
Something For Pampering
Zippo have a great range of stylish, premium leather accessories. I’m loving this leather toiletry bag (which is currently on sale for the bargain price of £21.99. Just the place for dad to keep his pampering things and perfect when you are travelling.
Baylis & Harding Skin spa men’s weekend bag is a really classy and thoughtful gift to give. The set comes packaged in a classically styled grey weekend bag. Inside the travel bag, there’s 200ml shower gel, 150g soap, 100ml hair & body wash, 100ml body lotion and 50ml aftershave balm from the Skin Spa range. These products have an attractive amber and sandalwood fragrance.
Something to Write with
Maybe your dad likes nice stationery or wants to make plans for the year ahead. I love this Worther Shorty Pencil which is very stylish and practical too. It has a distinctive appearance and feels good to hold too. The soft 3mm 7B lead can be used on wood, metal, paper and plastic. Dad can make a note of his projects in this lovely notebook: the Palmi Large Leather Journal screams quality, but is available for a very reasonable price. If you want more stationery gift ideas, take a look at Pen Heaven as they have plenty to choose from.
Something to Drink
Portobello Road Gin have collaborated with legendary rock musician and Dire Straits frontman, Mark Knopfler OBE, to launch a distinctive, special edition ‘rock n roll’ gin this March. Mark Knopfler, a passionate gin fan and former Notting Hill local, worked with Portobello Road Gin’s co-founder, Jake F. Burger to create Local Heroes No.3. It’s is a bold gin that combines Portobello Road Gin’s nine signature botanicals with lime zest, fresh cucumber peel and olive oil. The unique combination of botanicals results in a robustly ginny profile with strong spice flavour and heat which are quickly tempered by the coolness of cucumber. I loved the combination of spice and freshness.
A bottle of wine often goes down well. Perhaps you’d like to pick something out that is perfect pairing with a summer barbecue. Marques De Caceres, leading Spanish Rioja brand, has a few selections including: the aromatic Verdejo White (£8.99), the rich and dry Blanco White (£8.49) and the floral Rosado Rosé (£8.49) all of which are ideal for grilled fish and shellfish. If your dad prefers red then how about the spicy Crianza (£9.49), which is a perfect pairing for BBQ burgers and steaks.
Something To Eat
If your Dad suffers from food allergies, or just likes to look after his health, he’d probably appreciate some tasty treats. Creative Nature Superfoods have quite a range of products and there should be something that would suit. Perhaps he likes healthy snacks to eat on the go like the various bars in the vegan protein bar range (the apple pie one was very tasty). The muffin mixes are delicious and are so easy to make, plus they are packed full of superfoods and good things. The Pink Himalayan Crystal Salt is a real winner for those who like to make sure everything they eat is packed full of good things (in this case all 84 trace minerals) and lots of flavour too.
Father’s Day does fall at the height of the bbq season, so maybe you might want to give something that dad can use on his burger or his spare ribs. Jack Daniel’s Sauces have a mouthwatering range of barbecue sauces and gorgeous glazes. He’ll be able to simply serve up luxuriously sticky, glazed chicken wings and ribs, add depth to ‘low and slow’ dishes like pulled pork or beef brisket, or use the sauces as a delicious dip for fries, wedges and veggies.
Something a bit Different
How about getting your dad a DNA profile done? It could start him off on a new hobby (family tree) or fill in some gaps in his knowledge of his family.
