I don’t know if it’s the prospect of not being able to travel anywhere, but I’ve spent a lot of time in lockdown planning future trips. I’ve been looking at places to go to and I’ve mentally explored so many destinations. That’s not all though, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how I would travel and how I would pack for holidays. In particular, I’m conscious that packing toiletries for a holiday is something I haven’t done that well in the past. So I’ve been looking at ways to improve how I take care of my personal care needs when I’m away from home. I’ve also become more environmentally conscious, so I’m keen to more towards zero waste travel.

I’ve been using soap more and more lately rather than facial washes or shower gels. Soap is great when you are traveling as it doesn’t eat into your liquid allowance. It also doesn’t take up very much space and if you pick out the right soap container, it can take up less space as you use it. So it seems like a natural evolution to move towards using solid products for other toiletries too. I have been trying out grüum’s shampoo and conditioning bars, as well as their soap.
One thing that’s impressed me is grüum’s range of shampoo bars: there are 5 to choose from. You can pick from Brightening, Revitalising, Nourishing, Shine Enhancing, or Mild & Gentle. There’s plenty of choice for the conditioning bar too as you can pick from Nourishing, Revitalising, Brightening, or Shine Enhancing. I’ve been trying out the Nourishing shampoo and conditioning bars over the last few weeks. When you use the bars there’s a lovely coconut smell that has a real tropical feel. That coconut is one of the key ingredients is a crucial part of giving these bars a luxurious, nourishing feel. I have really enjoyed using these and my hair feels softer, better cared for too.
I love the scent of the Orange and Grapefruit body wash bar. It’s perfect for getting you ready to face the day in the morning, but works well to revive you before a night out. The bars are available in 6 scents: Orange & Grapefruit, Lemongrass & Hemp, Peppermint & Poppy Seed, Patchouli & Sandalwood, Aloe Vera and Lavender. As you’d expect from grüum, they are plastic and palm-oil free, plus 100% natural. They feel very creamy when you are using them and make a perfect every day skincare treat leaving your skin feeling moisturised. The soap seems to last well and I expect to get a good amount of use out of it.
grüum offer handy carrying tins: one size for the shampoo and conditioning bars and another for their soap bars (the shampoo bars are circular and the body bars are rectangular). These are a good fit, lightweight and a great way of transporting the bars on your travels or even when for taking them with you when you go to the gym.
Packaging is thoughtful too for these grüum products. It’s not excessive, just cardboard boxes for the shampoo bars and a waxy paper bag for the body bars. There’s no plastic at all which is so refreshing to see.
Disclosure: I was sent the grüum products for the purposes of this post.

You’re so right about the liquid allowance side of things. If I’m going abroad I hate travelling with just hand luggage just because of the liquid element x
I love that there are more bar options now, lots better for zero waste and travelling
I love the idea of using a bar shampoo – I didn’t know that was a thing you could do, but it’s such a good idea.
I like to travel. So I travel a lot when I’m on vacation.
I plan to switch to solid shampoo as soon as I’ve used up all the liquid shampoo we own.
I always over pack toiletries when I go on holiday, these grüum’s range of shampoo bars sound great, I may have to try these ?
I’ve being gruum products for a while now and find them great.
