I’ve fallen behind a bit with a busy few weeks, but I’m catching up now. Before Christmas I had a lovely meetup with some university friends. We went to the Birmingham Christmas Market and had a nice lunch in a pub. I also entered a competition in a shopping centre that I had a funny feeling about. You had to answer 3 pop music questions (multiple choice) and they were quite hard to answer even if you were up on such things as they were connected to the radio station that was running the competition. Somehow I managed to get 2 out of 3 right and was put in for the draw. A few days later I heard that I’d won: £100, so it was well worth the effort.
I had my facial that I was reviewing. It was an ENVY facial and it made my skin feel great. This was the liquid that came off my skin as part of the facial. Apparently it was quite clear, so I must be doing something right.
Another pre-Christmas highlight was going to a friend’s 60th birthday. These were the birthday cakes – aren’t they fab? The food was a hot Caribbean buffet which I really enjoyed.
The family arrived for Christmas. I roped my niece in to do a pre-Christmas post with me: we made a gingerbread house with HARIBO. I had 13 for Christmas dinner, but my sister helped a lot so it wasn’t too stressful. It was a great day and I think everyone enjoyed themselves.
The last couple of years we have had a pact not to buy presents for the family at Christmas. I now just buy for H and it is so much better in terms of stress levels. To make sure I get a present I have started buying myself something nice, so that I get a gift I will enjoy. Last year I went for an electric blanket for my bed and it has been so nice to get into warm sheets at night. This year I decided to treat myself to some new slippers. The pair at the top are my old pair and I got them 4 years ago from UGG because I went to a blogging event they ran. They have lasted well, but are giving up the ghost now. They are really expensive though, so I decided that a new pair of UGG slippers could be my Christmas present(at the bottom of the picture). If they last another 4 years, they’ll have been very good value.
As well as all the family time I did fit in a night out with friends. We tried out a couple of new places locally. One was a craft beer micro pub and whilst I liked the decor, I wasn’t impressed with the beer or the prices, so probably won’t go back. The other place was another pub that has recently become a curry pub – this is quite common around Birmingham and has kept a lot of pubs open. They are still pubs, but serve Indian food. There was a new one and they had a good deal on Groupon. I was very impressed by the menu and the price. I will be going back to that one.
Happy New Year to all my readers. I hope 2020 is a great year for us all.
