It’s been a fairly dull week again here, but it’s seemed more positive. H seems to have got over his headaches for now at least. I haven’t had much to take pictures of, so I’ve taken some of the things I’ve been doing this week. These are the books I’m reading (or I am reading the two with bookmarks at least and about to start on the middle one when I finish the one on the right). The history book is surprisingly a really interesting read – my degree is in history so I’m biased. I did have an inkling it would be good though, as I went to a lecture by the author when I went to the Edinburgh book festival in the summer (I won a trip there and had a great time). He is from Birmingham like me, so more positives there, and it’s a really knowledgeable, thoughtful and very readable book. I thought I knew quite a lot about the nineteenth century but it has been an eye opener. The book starts with the creation of the United Kingdom and it seems strange to be reading about that at a time when there seems to be a lot pulling that kingdom apart.
The other two books are much more lightweight reads. I’m enjoying The Detective’s Daughter and I think I’ll be seeking out more from this author in future. The middle book I saw on the Instagram feed of a friend and I thought I’d give it a try. I’ve tried a few from her feed before and have yet to be disappointed.
This week has seen me swim about 4 miles in the pool, so I’m feeling very virtuous. This is my current swim gear including a longer body swimsuit (I’m on the tall side of average, but I have a long body so I thought I’d try this type and they are easier to put on and more comfortable for me). The hat is a man’s one – I’ve experimented with a few, but this seems the best so far for accommodating my head and my hair. The goggles keep fogging up, but they are much easier on my eyes than the last pair and I don’t have goggle eyes (those marks on your skin where the goggles were) for long afterwards. I’d like to say I was losing weight because of all the exercise, but that hasn’t happened, but I know I’m quite fit and there is muscle hiding underneath.
I had two surprise packages from brands I’ve worked with before this week. I knew they were sending me something, but not what was arriving. I just took this pic so I could see what I’d got from the range when I was writing up my blogpost (I’m running a competition to win a set next week). The other package was for cleaning things, which doesn’t sound very exciting, but I’m looking forward to trying out the cup cleaner. Normally I clear away tannine stains from my cups of tea every so often using soaking water with a dishwasher tablet dissolved in it, but this is a special product formulated for the task. It will be interesting to see if it is more effective.
