Good news on the book front here (we are both keen readers). I have an appointment at the library next week to pick up some books that I’ve asked for and I also had a couple of book wins arrive. H has had a sudden influx of books as a friend was clearing out the room of her now grown up son and wanted to get rid of his books. H has already read some of these, but some he’s happy to reread and there are plenty of new ones too. Anything left over will go to the charity shop or the local library if they are taking donations. I’m hoping he might discover some new series or new authors. I’m looking forward to getting some new books to read. I’ve not yet run out, but I think it will be good to have a bit more of a selection to choose from including some by my favourite authors.
We have had a bit of wildlife in the house this week and I could have done without it. First there was a spider and a daddy-long-legs in the bathroom. Then we found this horrible creature at the top of the kitchen door – no idea where he got in. I’ve also seen slug trails in the living room and I’m not sure if this creature is the culprit or not. Hoping we have seen the back of the slug now.
The garden doesn’t look as good as it was. Most of the summer bedding is past its best now. The geraniums are still looking good though and I’ve got some nice pansies for autumn too. Still getting to harvest quite a bit of veg: we still have runner beans and some peas; the sweetcorn looks like it might be ready; the last of the potatoes are being dug up; and I have tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries and peppers in the greenhouse.
We are about to go into lockdown locally as our cases of Covid 19 have gone up. We can’t have people round to the house next week, but we can meet up to six at the pub or in a restaurant! H’s school have had cases and a couple of years have been sent home. I think he’ll be off school again (at least for a little while) very soon. My Dad’s neighbours have the disease at the moment, so it’s all feeling very real again.
