Last weekend we went to visit friends in Oxford. It was great to see them again as it’s been about a year since we last visited them. The weather was reasonably kind and playing football outside in their garden was feasible. H enjoyed having some other children to play with. In the evening it did rain, but the children turned it into an adventure and went out dressed in waterproofs and wellies
carrying torches to explore the garden in the gloom.
The next day the children and their dads went off to explore the Pitt-Rivers museum in Oxford. H was keen to go to the ‘dinosaur’ museum and they all seemed to enjoy themselves. The mums stayed back at base mooching around. I did some flicking through gardening books on the sun lounger with a cup of tea – very hard work. There’s something very nice about having time to yourself away from home – no need to start cleaning, sorting, etc. and no temptation to do it either.
I’ve taken a few sleeping shots this week. Here’s H asleep in bed with his Wenlock toy. He’s had it nearly 2 months now and he’s still a favourite. Also in bed is John the Panda. John is a toy from my childhood and he’s very popular with H too. He often comes on holiday with us as he is the perfect size to fit in a suitcase or bag.
Another sleepy shot. I couldn’t resist taking this one as H had his legs up in the air despite being fast asleep – I didn’t realise that was possible. It’s such a strange position to sleep in – I can’t believe it was comfortable.
Here’s H doing one of his after school activities this week. Play dough is a perennial favourite and we hadn’t got it out for a while. Here he is playing with one of his favourite sets: a fairytale castle. One of the things I like about play dough is that H usually plays for it for about an hour in one go, which I think is good value for the clear up time.
This week and last we have been working on a Hama Beads project for Craft Merrily. H has enjoyed using the beads which are a good way of developing manual dexterity skills. He’s been doing a little here and there. Here he is doing a little one morning in his JetRay costume, as you do. Review to follow soon on the costume and there’ll be a post about our Hama Beads creation too.
Friday was H’s last day in Reception class as it was the end of the school year. The parents were invited in at the end of the day to see the children all blowing bubbles together in the playground. Here he is walking home. This will be the last school run shot on the blog for a while.
Looks like you had a lovely time away. Hope H enjoys the summer break 🙂
Lovely photos as always! You certainly keep Henri busy!! I must go to Oxford, I love it and went a lot when I was young but I have never taken the children x
Thought of you on the way back as not long out of Oxford we passed a sign to Evesham – didn’t seem to be that far away either. H loves going, but we do tend to mostly hang out at friend’s house which feels like it is in the countryside as it is close to a park.
Great photos for this week, you have the same table cloth as me, except my little man stabbed holes in mine with his fork this week, I was so upset. Its the first time he has done anything like that 🙁
Aren’t kids funny, the positions they sleep in? that one is so cute
What a sweetheart! Love that walking home shot. Very poignant.
That sleeping position is something, I can’t believe he was comfy either 🙂
Lovely selection, my favourite is the sleeping one. Love those dinosaur bed covers! 🙂
End of reception class big step..he won’t seem like your little boy any more.
Love that sleeping position! Great shot for end of school too – I couldn’t think of what to picture for that!
Sounds like you’ve had a busy week! I’m glad we are done with school runs for a while, i need the rest too!
Awwww I love the ones of sleeping children- so innocent, and so rewarding to be able to see how you’ve worn them out…
…. But the walking home shot, that’s just gorgeous!
Love the boys walking together there, sharing a good old conversation about school no doubt!
I love the legs up sleepy one as well 🙂
it always amazes me the positions that children can sleep in! and i do love a sleeping child photo!! it is lovely to get away from home isn’t it as you say although there is always work to go home to, at least being away means you don’t have to see it and feel inclined to tackle it!
i really like the final photo of H and his friend in deep conversation walking home of the last time this term x
