Trying to photograph some different aspects of our life in lockdown this week (or at least the first couple of pictures do). This is my standard white loaf from the breadmaker. I’ve made bread by hand in the past, but I know I wouldn’t do it regularly enough, so the breadmaker works well for me. I’ve been using a breadmaker for years now. I’m not sure how long, but I know I had my first one at the last house and we moved in 2011. I’m onto breadmaker number two now. Lockdown or not, I make bread two or three times a week. I’ve not had much luck making a brown loaf with the breadmaker – they are all too heavy and dense. The best I can manage is adding some brown flour to the mix. Luckily flour hasn’t been a problem as I buy flour by the sack and had bought a full sack (25kg) a few weeks before lockdown. The trouble is I’m not sure where and when I’ll be able to replace it. My usual supplier don’t seem to have any large sacks. I have found somewhere else that seem to do 16kg bags, if you are prepared to wait for a delivery slot, so that might be the way to go.
I decided it was time to get some face masks and I wanted some I could reuse. As I see it they are mostly to protect others from me, so I may as well have something comfortable and attractive to wear. I got these from someone I regularly interact with on Instagram @theglassflorist and I’m very pleased with them. I like to give my business to small enterprises if I can. H could wear the blue ones I think if needs be, so these can do for both of us for the time being.
I’ve been desperate for compost for weeks, but not so keen as to go to a garden centre or DIY store to get it. Luckily my local Aldi are stocking it currently so I got a bag with the weekly shop. The trouble is that I got back home with it and in the space of an hour, I’d used it all up and now I need more again. I think I will pop down to Aldi for some more next week and do a top up shop whilst I’m there. I need to keep my car running regularly as it had a flat battery this week because of not having a great deal of use lately. I think I’ll have to take a drive out or two to the countryside for a walk. Whilst I was at Aldi I couldn’t resist some new plants either and this is my latest haul.
The lavender is destined for this narrow border of my garden. A couple of the original plants are looking a bit leggy and past their best, so I’m going to use these new plants to fill those gaps. I have more red geraniums, so I going to put them into pots and I’m hoping they will look quite effective when placed together on the patio. I’ve also got some white geraniums to go in pots and a coreopsis (which is a new plant to me so I’ll have to have a think about what to do with it).
