This week my pictures don’t really reflect what I’ve been doing. I think I was too busy doing things to take the pictures, so my shots for this week are taken around the garden as and when we have been at home. I do like to keep a record of how the garden is coming on, so it’s no bad thing. This first picture is of my flower border down the side of the house. It’s looking quite established at the far end, but further down it’s a bit weedy to say the least.
On Sunday I went out to watch the football – I’m not a big fan, but one of the local teams was up for promotion. As you can imagine local pubs showing the football were quite busy and it was a good atmosphere because it all came good for Aston Villa.
I’m making a bit more of an effort this year with pots. I think it’s because I’m planning a party to be hosted at my house later this month for my big birthday. It would be nice if the garden looked pretty and colourful.
This week’s big job in the vegetable garden was getting the peas and beans planted. It took quite a while because the bed needed weeding before I could plant out. I also had to get the supports organised. Hopefully I’ll get a good crop this year. Last year none of the peas made it to the kitchen because H ate them all straight off the plants.
H and I went out for the day to visit our friends who have a farm. I think it was a bit of an eye opener for H. My friend’s boy is 14 and he is having to step up a bit at the moment because his Dad got kicked by one of his cows and was injured.
The blackcurrants are coming on well now. I think I need to wrestle with the netting again to keep the birds off while they ripen.
Not sure what these are. They look very pretty, but I think they could be a weed or maybe a wildflower. There are lots in one of the beds that I have to weed this week.
H went to spend the day with one of his school friends yesterday. The downside of going to a grammar school is that friends aren’t always local. This one lived 20-30 minutes drive away – only about 6 miles, but it can be slow going in the city and I had to go back and forth twice (once to drop him and once to pick him up). Hopefully he’ll be able to make his own way there another time as the bus that goes down our road, goes very close to their house if you sit on it long enough.
