We have had such a busy week. Friends from Germany arrived last Sunday to stay with us for a few days. We spent Monday visiting the Jewellery Quarter Museum in Hockley because it seemed like a good wet weather option. I think we could have done with a better guide as she delivered the tour at a hundred miles an hour and I had to listen carefully to keep up, so I don’t know how my German friends got on and the little ones found it a bit dull because they didn’t understand. A slightly more leisurely tour would have made it easier to explain things to them. The museum is really interesting though and I always enjoy a visit.
After our German friends had left we spent another day out with our former neighbours visiting Warwick Castle. Warwick is another great place to visit and H always enjoys a trip there. The only downside was that we missed the trebuchet because of a technical problem and we couldn’t stay for the later demonstration. It wasn’t the best day weatherwise, but we made the most of it.
There has been quite a lot of tea and a fair amount of cake consumed this week and that’s the way I like it. We had this spread at the Edwardian Tea Room in Birmingham. I picked out the Coffee and Walnut cake, but H enjoyed the Victoria Sandwich cake.
We had a day in the city centre with H’s cousins who arrived late the week for a few days. The three boys: 2 cousins and my H, are very close in age and always have a good time together. We went to the main museum in Birmingham and discovered modern art, the Staffordshire Hoard and learnt about the history of Birmingham. H and I have been to the museum many times, but every time we go we discover something new and they have temporary exhibitions too.
