Last week we spent a morning at Birmingham Botanical Gardens. There’s lots to see and do there, but a favourite for me, at this time of year, is their annual apple display which I always make a point of visiting. It’s literally a display giving an A-Z of apples with loads of different varieties. No variety is too obscure to be included.
The display is inside their lawn aviary. As you open the door and a wave of apple scent hits you. It’s simply glorious. Each apple is labelled and there is an amazing range of colours and sizes, both for eating apples and cookers. It’s quite a sight with every shade of green, yellow and red apple imaginable. I think the names are magical too: Madresfield Court, Cornish Aromatic and Craigflower Classic.
