H loves Star Wars and has from the moment that he first discovered it. Up till now we’d always watched the films, but we’d never seen the animated series before. I took Season 5 Star Wars: The Clone Wars (we were sent a review copy) with us on a long car journey and once he saw the words Star Wars, H had the disks in the DVD player without any delay. The Complete Season Five includes all 20 episodes, two of them as director’s cuts which were never seen on TV. As you’d expect there’s lots of behind-the-scenes bonus materials, cast and crew interviews, and deleted and alternate scenes. H doesn’t tend to be interested in all the extras though and wants to cut straight to the action.
There’s a lot of action too. H likes strong plot lines with plenty of action and generally the series delivered on this front for him. The animation is first rate too with convincing and compelling graphics. H was particularly excited about the parts that involved Darth Maul. The section about the different types of light sabre has appealed to the geek in H. Here’s a clip from that bit and David Tennant voices Huyang here. I don’t want to give too much away about the content and spoil it for people who want to watch the series, but I can confirm that series 5 has been a huge hit in our house and that you don’t need to have seen the earlier series to watch it, especially if you know the Star Wars story. There’s also a chance to buy the complete series of Star Wars: The Clone Wars so far, as well as series 5 on its own. They are both released on DVD on 14 October 2013.
