Last weekend we went on a family trip to visit a friend in Hertfordshire. On the way down we decided to break the journey at Wrest Park. Before we went I didn’t have a clue about what was there, but it did look like the sort of place where you could run around and let off steam. It was all that and much more with its 90 acres of garden and French style mansion. There’s always something new to see and run on to explore with so much space and such beautifully landscaped grounds.
To begin with I didn’t think we would be able to get H out of the playground. It’s a fab one with slides, climbing frames, swing bridges and best of all a zip wire. Lots of active fun to be had here and the lovely thing is that all the structures in the playground echo the buildings scattered throughout the gardens.
Of course, I couldn’t resist joining in on the zip wire (and falling off it). Then I was called upon for a game of tig and this continued when we wandering into the main gardens. H loved the long vistas which just seemed to encourage him to run and run as free as a bird. In contrast to the long sight lines of Long Water and the formal garden, there are lots of wooded areas with some fab climbing trees. Naturally, we couldn’t pass an opportunity like this by.
Here’s a video of our afternoon at Wrest Park: running free and climbing trees.
