Jokers Masquerade were kind enough to provide me with a Koala Bear Costume for my part in the Sports Relief Team Honk Relay.
Basically the koala costume consists of two parts: the body and the head. The body is easy to slip on and has a velcro fastening up the back. It’s easier to get someone to fasten it for you, but I found I could manage it myself too. At the feet the fur comes down long and then there is an elastic strap to slip over your shoes to keep the costume nicely in place. The hands are basically mitts that fold over your own hands and are easy to push back to deal with things like buying your bus ticket.
The head-piece for the koala costume is basically a hat that fastens under the chin. Your face is clear though so you can talk easily. In fact, the costume is well designed to let you comfortably do stuff that you might need to do. The only downside is that you will have to undo the velcro to go to the toilet, hence it is useful if you can do it up again yourself.
This is a good costume for wearing outside on a cold day as it keep you nice and warm and in fact, you have to be careful not to overdress if you are planning to be moving around. The bottom of my costume did get a little wet in some of the puddles which seem unavoidable with the dreadful weather we have at the moment. I’ve given it a gentle wash and it’s come up very nicely.
