Kids eat for £1 deal at Cookhouse and Pub

Oldbury Cookhouse and PubRecently we went to try out the new Cookhouse and Pub, now open on Wolverhampton Road in Oldbury. It offers a relaxed vibe with a fresh contemporary interior and serves good quality, affordable food on an all-day menu.  You can get breakfast through to dinner there and there are Sunday roasts on offer too. We’d not been to this venue since it was refurbished and opened as a Cookhouse and Pub and we were keen to see what it was like.

kids garlic bread

The kids’ menu is a pretty good deal anyway with 2 courses for £4.99 (3 courses for an extra 75p), but the Kids eat for £1 deal makes eating out as a family even more affordable. H is at that in-between age where he sometimes has a children’s meal and sometimes an adult’s.  To be honest he found the kids’ meal plenty big enough and he didn’t leave enough room for pudding, so he needed some help with that.

calamari starter

Whilst H was munching through his garlic bread and cucumber sticks, both Dad and I had the Calamari to start served with a garlic mayonnaise to dip it in. Dad was impressed and said it was the best Calamari he’d had outside Italy.

childs burger

As you can see H’s main course burger was pretty generous for a kids’ meal.  I’ve been served adult burgers elsewhere with less chips.  It certainly seemed to meet with his approval as it was quickly polished off.

steak and chips

I had a nice steak and chips for my meal, whilst Dad had fish and chips.  He was very happy with his meal.  I liked my steak as it was tasty.  The steak was cooked medium in parts (as requested), but other parts of the meat were better done than that.  This isn’t a big deal for me and it certainly scored in the flavour department.

We finished our meal with some tasty desserts.  Dad enjoyed the lemon mousse, but found it a touch on the sweet side of perfection.  I went for the Black Forest Sundae which was a yummy blend of vanilla ice cream, brownie chunks, cherries in Kirsch and chocolate sauce.  It was lovely.

We found the Oldbury Cookhouse and Pub to be good value offering tasty meals and generous servings.  The Kids Eat For £1 deal is certainly very tempting and I’d happily go back if we fancied a bit of a treat and a break from the cooking/washing up.
