One of H’s favourite places to go is the gym. We only get to go at school holidays these days, so we took advantage of a teacher training day the other week to fit in some family fun and family activity. Because we only go sporadically now that H is at school, every time we go he seems to have moved on physically and it’s a great way to test him out to see how he’s progressed. It also gives us the chance to work on his physical confidence in a safe environment. But more than anything else it is tremendous fun, as he gets to play in an olympic standard gym for an hour. And what’s more I do too.
The gym gives H a chance to try out lots of different pieces of equipment. So he gets to work on his upper body strength with the various bars (asymmetric and parallel bars); to practise his balancing on the beams and horses; to bounce up and down on the trampolines; and to use rhythmic gymnastics equipment like hula hoops. This time I was really impressed that he seemed to be mastering the hula hoop.
