The week started well with a posh dinner out for me and my husband. We enjoyed fine food and wine and talked of many things, including plotting a new blog. Still crystallising that in my head, but news will follow. Here is a picture of our very posh fish, chips and peas starter. It was gorgeous and I could have eaten a plateful. The fish was beautifully cooked and the chips were a bit like an upmarket version of those french fries crisps. The clean, fresh taste of the peas was the perfect contrast.
On Sunday we took a walk through the woods with my family after Sunday lunch. Here’s H climbing through a tree with twin trunks. We’ve always had a thing about them being lucky, but I’m not sure where that idea came from. We wandered through a part of the woods I hadn’t been for a few years and made some new discoveries (I took some photos for future posts).
H was on his October half term holidays from school this week and we had something planned for most days. We spent one morning in Worcester visiting my Grandmother in hospital, but finding some time to play in the nearby country park too. H had the playground to himself, probably due to the weather and the fact that the schools local to there have next week off. My Saturday is Caption Day picture this week was taken there too.
Another day saw us at a den building session in our local woods. Here’s H modelling the leaf crown he made while he was there. The den building proved particularly popular with H – he’s a natural engineer and was happy to be introduced to some new methods of shelter building. There was also some leaf identification activities and bug hunting so much fun was had by all.
We were given some free tickets for a circus being held in a local park this week. We went with H’s best friend’s family and for all three boys that went, it was their first trip to the circus. It proved very popular, the boys were enthralled, and it’s been talked about a lot since. H definitely wants to go to see another circus soon. Acrobatics and the clowns seemed to be H’s favourite parts of the show.
H’s Granny has a big birthday this weekend. This week has involved some preparations for the family party, that we hosted, which will be over by the time you read this post. Here’s H making Granny’s birthday card. It started off as a picture, but ended up as something more abstract.
We’ve done a lot this week, but it’s been nice not to have to be ready and out of the door so early this week. There has been time to lounge around and play Lego in pyjamas and dressing gowns for instance. I’m not looking forward to those early school run mornings next week.
