When H was very little he sat on a horse at one of those children’s farms and seemed to really enjoy the experience. Since then though there have been a few opportunities to go on a donkey ride or a pony ride and he hasn’t been keen. I think I assumed he was nervous about it as he seemed so adamant about not going. I kept thinking that we would have to wait until he changed his mind or until we were somewhere, where a bit more time could be taken to persuade him to give it a try.
I was rather surprised then how quickly and easily he agreed to a donkey ride, on a recent visit to the beach. The only thing that seemed to be required was that his friends went too. If only I’d realised it was that easy. It’s true that the previous opportunities to try a ride had been when we were alone as an only child family unit. I guess too that it might have been different if us adults were having a go too, but at children’s farms and the like, it tends to just be children who can have a ride. It seems that H is a social rider.
The ride went well and he was all smiles. Maybe it will be easier now to persuade him to have a go even if there aren’t any friends to go along.
