This week H had a teacher training day and he didn’t want to go out for the day. So we decided in the end to go out for lunch at a local pub restaurant. We’ve been to the King’s Head, Hagley Road, Birmingham many times over the years, but it’s usually tended to be a place for a special occasion meal, in fact we’ve been there several times to celebrate H’s birthday. It was nice for a change to go there on the spur of the moment for a weekday lunch, just mother and son.
H opted for one of his favourite meals Beer Battered Fish and Chips, although I think it was a close call with the pizza which came second. Apparently the fish and chips was very tasty and the only thing he wasn’t so keen on was the mushy peas (described as pea puree on the menu which I think confused him). It certainly looked delicious and his plate was clear at the end of the meal, which always bodes well.
I decided to treat myself to the Rib Eye on the Bone. I know that when I’ve had the chance to try out all the steak types at the same time, rib eye wins every time for flavour. I wasn’t disappointed. My rib eye came with the choice of a fried or a poached egg and the egg was perfectly done with lots of runny yolk. Add to that some roast cherry tomatoes, seasonal green vegetables, some very moreish fries and Béarnaise sauce and I was very happy with my grill. Everything was fresh and well prepared, plus my steak was served (as I’d asked) medium done.
