We were sent a Dalek Spaceship from Character Building to review. You can imagine the excitement from H when I got it out, as it combined two of his favourite things: space/aliens/Doctor Who with a construction toy.
It’s a complex construction set and it’s marked as a 6+ set. H is 5.5 years old, but would usually manage a 6+ set unaided, but he needed a substantial amount of support to put it together. In fact, it would be fair to say he was the assistant rather than the prime mover. Inside the box, there are a number of sealed plastic bags full of bricks, but they weren’t grouped in a logical order so you’ll need to open most of them up quite quickly. We also changed the way (from the instructions) of putting one piece together to make things a bit easier.
H loved helping his Dad to build the ship and since it’s been made, he’s enjoyed playing with it. He’s also made his own constructions from the bits. It’s great that it comes with all sorts of round, gold, interesting bits which look great on new creations. It also features moveable parts, a detachable skimmer car, laser cannons and a transparent dome.
What Stopped Play?
Just the complexity of the initial build really – the instruction booklet is quite long and detailed.
I can see this being a very popular Christmas present for Doctor Who fans and I would recommend it. A word of caution though, it will take quite some time to build so it’s not one to do on Christmas morning if you are trying to cook lunch too.
