For many people, learning to travel with your children is a massive life lesson. You end up figuring out what sort of activities everybody likes and what activities people really hate. This means that when you start to find the best types of approaches, you may find that you get into a rut of sorts. This means that when you are limited by certain types of holidays you’ve got to think outside the box. For many families, going hiking might not seem to be something that the kids will enjoy but is there a way around this to make sure that your children get the benefits of the great outdoors? But also, if you were someone that enjoyed hiking before the children came along how can you get the opportunity to get back to a simpler time?
Diving In!
Sometimes it’s best to take your children by surprise! If your children know where they are going it gives them the opportunity to complain. But if you spring the surprise on them, this becomes a very sink or swim approach. If you want to go further afield you could buy a used Range Rover and go away from civilization and phone reception, especially if the children are glued to their phones. Taking your children out of their comfort zone may warrant a few complaints but it could be the opportunity for everybody to start working together.
Find The Best Location For Everyone
This is one of the more difficult aspects of preparing a holiday. Finding something that’s for everyone can prove troublesome because nobody will be happy 100% of the time. But if you can find somewhere that is rural but is far away from somewhere like a theme park you’ve got the opportunities to explore. For example, if you want to explore the Pennines in the northwest, there are quite a few attractions nearby to please most of the family. There are waterparks galore, but there’s also places like Blackpool that has numerous fairground attractions.
Go To A National Park
As a way to please everybody, a national park can cover many bases. If you want to go to somewhere like Snowdonia there are numerous attractions for all of the family. When you go somewhere like a national park there is plenty of natural beauty but it also gives you the opportunity to check out the surrounding areas. It could also give you the chance to go camping. If you’ve got children that hate the idea of hiking but they don’t mind camping, that can be in an adventure all in itself. Taking the opportunity to go with the kids and camp under the stars won’t just be an opportunity to get out of the norm, but you may also find you all get along better. It’s something that families and children don’t tend to do these days. But if you can take the opportunity to go exploring in nature, the entire family can benefit.
When it comes to hiking, make sure that your children are physically able but be prepared to make loads of great memories.
Hiking as a family,is such a great way to explore new places and to have family time
We lived in Switzerland for 3 years when my kids were younger, and we did loads of hiking. In most of Switzerland, everything is closed on Sunday, so you can’t go shopping, can’t visit museums or tourist attractions, or go to the cinema or to restaurants. However, restaurants in the mountains have an exemption, so in nice weather we used to hike up a mountain, have lunch, then come back down in the cable car or zeilbahn.
never thought about this but this sounds great! x
Hiking great to to explore and have fun, and keep the kids occupied during all of this
We love hiking! Nothing like getting out in the fresh air, and walking to clear the mind. We really like to explore different parts of the Yorkshire Dales as it is so beautiful.
very interesting post–something good to do with the family
A lovely post to read, thank you! I’ve always wanted to go hiking with my family, but wouldn’t know where to start!
