I love the long summer holidays. They were great as a child and I enjoy them as a parent too. It’s great not to have to get out of the house by 8.30 every morning with packed lunch ready to go. We like to take a more relaxed start to the day and then pile in the fun. Getting to spend a lot of time with my H is important to me and I think he likes the fact that he gets to spend a lot of time with me. It’s all about seeing friends; getting outside (hopefully in the sun); being active; and having new experiences. All that takes up a lot of energy, so I like to keep plenty of snacks in, so that I can H and his friends going whatever they are doing. So it was good to get to try out the new BN Biscuits in chocolate and raspberry from McVitie’s. I really love the fun packaging with the smily face of the biscuit on the front.
McVitie’s BN Biscuits asked us to come up with family summer fun tips, so here are my tips for a fun packed summer holiday:
- A busy child is a happy child. H loves trying out lots of things. It’s much easier on me too if he is busy and happy. Sometimes I think we overdo it, but he comes home with a smile on his face and falls asleep quickly at bedtime, so I must be doing something right.
- That said, it’s worth having some quieter days immediately going back to school, so that your child doesn’t go back tired. The other advantage is that if your child is slightly bored, the idea of going back to school might be slightly more appealing than after a frantic week of theme park fun.
- Look for cheap or free local activities. Your local council is a good place to start as there may be activities on in parks, libraries and other venues.
I have a confession to make: we’ve tried these biscuits before (last year in France). They were a firm favourite during our holiday and we’ve enjoyed renewing our acquaintance this year with McVitie’s BN Biscuits. H loves that each biscuit is actually two biscuits (because it’s a sandwich). You get a tasty biscuit on each side and a yummy filling inside. What’s not to like? The cheerful faces on the biscuits make them an instant hit with children too. I think we only tried the chocolate flavour in France and I think the raspberry is a real winner too.
