Last weekend I got to meet up with my university friends and we had a lovely catch-up. It was an easy one for me as they all came to Birmingham (it’s where we were all at university after all). A very pleasant afternoon and evening together in the city centre (including some pricey prosecco in a high rise bar) before a Sunday morning stroll around the campus to revisit old haunts.
H and I tried out our new light box on a World Book Day post. The background is an mattress that I have in the dining room waiting for me to find it a new home, but I think it makes quite a good backdrop.
Monday and Tuesday were quite busy trying to get things done before going away later in the week. I could have done without making pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, but I didn’t want to let H down. As it was he was pretty full after his meal and only managed one, but the batter stored ok in the fridge and we had some more a few days later.
Wednesday saw me making my way down to Axminster to meet up with my friend Michelle from South Wales and catch up with her. We ate that evening in the River Cottage Canteen – we both had the gurnard which was lovely.
We spent all of Thursday at River Cottage on a one day cookery course. We made bread and cake; we filleted fish (gurnard again as it turned out) and cooked lamb; and we got to eat the fruits of our labour plus a few other culinary treats from the River Cottage kitchen. We were stuffed after all that food and didn’t make it out to eat that night.
Friday saw me heading back home again. Last time I went to River Cottage my connecting train was cancelled and I couldn’t quite believe it when the same thing happened this time too. The cake I’d made seemed to go down very well at dinner time with H, maybe it was because it was chocolate cake.
