This year we have had precious little snow and there have been complaints from H. It’s frustrating for him because last year we had no snow at all. In fact, it’s 2 years ago almost to the day I think that we had our last decent fall of snow. H’s birthday falls at the end of March and two years ago, it was good and deep on the ground for his birthday. In fact, I had to clear our drive to get the car out to take us to his party and I took a shovel along just in case we got stuck at the other end. I had to carry him part of the way to school because the snow had drifted so badly at one point.
The last two years though have been a totally different story though and H is desperate for a good snow play. The sledge is thick with dust and it doesn’t seem quite right that there hasn’t been an opportunity to have a snow day off school. It’s an important part of childhood I think. On the other hand, I am loving the thought of an Easter heatwave and H is keen to get onto the beach to play.
Part of me likes the idea of visiting somewhere with a proper amount of snow and I have fond memories of the winter I spent working in a Swiss ski resort. I’m always fascinated by ice sculptures and ice hotels. I’d really like to take H on a husky ride through the winter landscape. H is still holding out a hope of snow for this year, maybe we’ll need too wait till next year. What do you think? Is it too late for snow? Do you just want to get on with spring and summer?
