As he didn’t start until this afternoon, we had a morning together. I took him to buy a helmet for his bike and went for a short bike ride round a nearby cul-de-sac. Apart from that we did nothing really and kept it fairly chilled.
After an early lunch he got dressed and ready. I found this the most emotional time of the day and there were a few tears. He’d not tried on the uniform all at once before, so it was really strange to see him in it.
We took some photos, went to call for his friend and took some more. Then walked them down to school together. They went in very happily without a backward glance. It went without a hitch and I was happy. I expected to cry at the school and I didn’t. I felt that I’d said my goodbyes to my Preschooler at home and I was just seeing my schoolboy off for the day. That said the tears are coming now as I write this piece.

Ah, well done Henry! A proper grown up boy. And well done you, for coping so bravely… *passes tissues* ;D
Well done, its hard to let them go, another stage in life starts. Having it that with our Granddaughter at moment, thought would have been used to it by now, but the feelings never go away
Ahhh well done both of you!! Hope he has a brilliant day today!!

He looks so smart. It really is a very emotional time. I still get teary at the start of new terms, but it’s soon back into the routine. Strange when success can leave you feeling teary! But much better than lots of tears (theirs) and meltdown.

We had first day of school last year. I thought I’d be sad but I wasn’t. I think you are excited for them to start the new chapter in their life.

Ah Bless. I can only imagine what that is like for you. Our wee lad had an introduction to playschool recently, and he flew off like a greyhound – so I don’t think he will miss me when school comes. I will enjoy the time I have now.
