Review: Straw Art Kit

Create Your Own Straw Art KitSetting Up It’s quite easy to get started with this Straw Art Kit.  The straws and other bits are inside the box within a sealed plastic bag.  You do need to press out the circular bits from the plastic rings that they come in, but this isn’t difficult and doesn’t take too long.

In Play You probably played with these when you were a kid, I think we had them at school.  They’re easy to use and you just insert the ends of the straws onto the spokes and wheels.  To make things like legs for animals, you might need to cut the straws.  They are a great creative resource as children can make whatever they want and it’s spanned the gap between construction sets and art sets.

What stopped play? The diagrams with suggestions of things to make are not step by step guides and with the complex projects, it’s not always easy to see which bits have been used.  We did run into difficulties getting one straw into one of the rings, but the other pieces worked fine.

Price and Availability It’s available from Find Me A Gift for £7.49 currently, but the recommended retail price is £8.99

These are fab!!! I am a qualified primary school teacher, but a full time mum at the mo, and I had these in my classroom! I taught reception and Year 1 and all the children loved them – both girls and boys! The children came up with the most original of ideas for making and creating – I think I might buy some for my own children at home!

I’ve got a different make of these but the principle is the same. Good game.

My daughter would definitely have some fun with one of these! Vaguely remember something similar from when I were primary school age too. Think I’ll be buying one of these for those rainy ‘summer’ days! And at under a tenner you can’t go wrong really!
