Setting Up Great Gizmos were kind enough to send me this Trash Robot set to try out and one to give away to 92three30 readers.
The Trash Robot uses household waste items as the basis for creating a robot, in fact a set makes 2 robots. This is like a bit like junk modelling, but with wheels that work and cool stickers/arms/eyes to add on to make your own robot character. You can use a plastic bottle, drinks can or carton (the size and sort that a pink of milk used to come in).
In Play I was impressed by how easy it was to construct the robot. Henry (at just turned 5) was able to put the base together almost
unaided and without the assistance of the instructions. The googly eyes provided have sticky bits on the back – just peel off the backing (help from adult needed here). Googly eyes are often a bug bear of mine as they can be difficult to attach, but these were fine. There is a wide and generous array of stickers provided to decorate the robot and conveniently you can cut the sheet down the middle to provide a set for each robot.
What stopped play? Not much. Henry needed a minimal amount of adult help to create his robot. You might need to use something to anchor the bottle in the base, if your child wants to use it as a toy.
Overall This is a good quality crafting/science toy and would be suitable its advertised age group of 5+, but I would use for a younger age group too with more supervision.
I’m really pleased to be able to offer one to our readers. Usual 92three30 rules apply.

My daughter is mad on creating stuff out of things we would normally recycle, since so many of her masterpieces are robots it would be a refreshing change to make one which was a little bit more realistic and that did something

Being a family of 5 we have tons of recycling, so we could use plastic bottles / milk cartons / milk bottle lids / pop bottle lids / toilet or kitchen roll tubes / and other bits and bobs which there are plenty of lying around the house! In fact, we have a cupboard in the hall where we keep all sorts of things that the little ones could use for craft activities, from pom-poms, scraps of material, pipe-cleaners, googly eyes, millions of buttons…..
i would use a small water bottle so i could decorate how i like:-)
