What is it? We were recently sent some Soreen products to try out. I’ve been familiar with Soreen’s standard malt loaf since I was a child. It’s something I’ve always enjoyed and I was interested to see the range of products they now offer. We tried out the lunchbox loaves and the toastie loaf.
What was it like to eat? The lunchbox loaves are a great size and come individually wrapped. It’s easy to pop one into a packed lunch for school. H tried out both flavours and preferred the banana one to the original. I also put them in my husband’s lunch box: he enjoyed them and I found them very handy. Each bar has less than 100 calories and less than 0.3g saturated fat so it’s a healthy choice too.
The toastie loaf is essentially a larger malt loaf that comes ready sliced. I thought that this was a great idea as I have always found malt loaf a little difficult to slice and it often seems to get a bit squashed in the process. With these toastie loaves you don’t have that problem at all. They’re designed to be suitable for toasting and we did try this out. I think though on balance, we preferred just to spread them with butter and eat as they come. This loaf is quite handy to keep in as it keeps longer than normal bread and does the job of both bread and cake for me.
Overall I was glad to have the chance to try out these products. We’d kind of got out of the habit of having malt loaf in the house, but I’ve been reminded how delicious, nutritious and useful it is to have around. The lunchbox loaves will be regulars in H’s sandwich box in future and the toastie loaf will be a great family food to eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just as a snack.
