At the weekend we went to visit the in-laws and Saturday saw us visiting Food Gusto, a local food festival. As well as having the food festival in town, there was the annual arts festival. Each year local artists create pictures to go on the walls of shops and other buildings around the town and it’s quite fun to walk around spotting them.
Sunday saw us having a family meal. H got to play in the garden with his cousin’s dog. Sadly it proved a bit difficult to persuade the dog to put the ball down so it could be thrown. H also dipped into golf course design and grandad got to play a round.
Monday was a quiet day at home catching up with jobs and things, but on Tuesday we went to Birmingham Botanical Gardens. This is a favourite place for us to go in the holidays. H was keen to roll down their hill this time – it’s the perfect hill for rolling: nice soft grass and no chance of dog poo.
On Wednesday we went to Warwick Castle to see the Horrible Histories® Wicked Warwick Live Stage Show. Warwick Castle is another favourite place to visit and H always enjoys a trip there.
On the way home from our trip to Warwick H asked if Warwick was our closest castle. I said no and said it was Weoley Castle, but when H asked which one that was, I had to admit that we’d never been there. So on Thursday we set out to find our local castle. It’s not open very often and there’s a big fence to stop you getting in, but we did manage to get a reasonable view of it. We also took H’s Super Soaker to the local swimming baths to join in a family fun session.
On Friday we braved the rain to go on a bear hunt. This was a local trail with 30 bears around a 2km walk through the area with each bear being decorated by a local organisation, school or shop. I loved this Alice in Wonderland bear decorated by the Mad as a Hatter Tea Room.
