For those of you who are regular readers, you’ll know that I’ve been trying to up my photography game over the last few months. One way I’ve done this has been to invest in some new tools. I don’t mean expensive things like a new camera or lenses, but instead I’ve spent a little money on the things that appear in my pictures. So far I’ve mostly gone for backdrops as they are easy to store and provide a very quick impact. For now I’m using what I have around the house for props.
Pixers got in touch recently and asked if I’d like to try out some of their range and I thought about what would make sense for me. Then I realised that their table veneers would make good photography backdrops. They are meant for sticking onto tables or other surfaces to make them more interesting or maybe to upcycle something that looks a little past its best. I ordered them at a size that I knew worked well for backdrops because I already had one of a similar size.
So I had a lot of fun finding suitable backdrops and choose a variety of different colours and patterns, so that I would have a good range to choose from in my backdrop library. It didn’t take more than a few days for them to arrive and then I could have fun taking pictures with the various backdrops.
As you can see I’ve been using them for a series of flat lay pictures that I have used in connection with a number of other brands I have been working with and I’m really pleased with the results. I have distinctive, hopefully professional looking photographs to use in my blogposts.
I did try using one of them as a backdrop by attaching it to a board and using it as a background to a table top picture I did. I think it looks really effective, but I don’t think the vinyl bounced back that well after been clipped round a board, so rather than damage them I’ll use them for flatlays. They haven’t been designed for that use after all and I think given that price wise they worked out much cheaper than more specialist vinyls, it’s an acceptable compromise.
If you are looking for wallpaper or decal stickers for either your walls or furniture, or some backdrops for your flatlays, I have a 40% discount code for you to use with Pixers: input ERICA in the checkout process (the code is valid for 3 months).
