Pizza Express in the Bullring, Birmingham invited us along to take a look at their new look. The whole restaurant has a fresh, clean new look and is an even better place for a meal than it was before.
If you haven’t been before or for a while, you might not be aware of the restaurant’s spectacular rooftop views over central Birmingham. You can admire the view from the outside balconies or simply through the windows. There’s also a new drinks bar, a redesigned open kitchen and leather banquette seating. In fact, all the seating has been changed to give a more comfortable experience. I loved the inside/outside seating area where you can enjoy views of the shopping centre and beyond, still being part of the Bullring experience while you eat.
Inside there’s high level timber chevron panelling, with inserts of polished brass, and illuminated Carrara marble dominates the main wall. The pizzaiola counter is finished in white marble with feature scissor pendant lighting. Plus a dynamic black and white chevron patterned floor picks up on the Pizza Express brand colours.
H didn’t need much persuasion to settle down to a little entertainment while he waited for his Pizza Express favourite: dough balls.
The refurbishment coincides with the launch of some summer specials to celebrate the summer of sport in Brazil. The Barbacoa Romana pizza offers a taste of Brazil’s famous dry rubbed barbecue. Back by customer demand is the Eton Mess Cheesecake, this time with the addition of a layer of dulce de leche, a traditional Latin American treat, made from sweetened milk. Also bringing a taste of the tropics is a zesty drink based on passionfruit, native to Brazil. We tried out the refreshing Passionfruit Lemonade and tried out the new Hawaiian Pizza which was a colourful delight.
