H has been going cubs since the summer term. We tried Boys Brigade some years ago, but he didn’t stick with it. This time he was a bit older and he was going to be with a good friend there. He has loved it. It’s not without its downsides: it’s not that close by (we have to drive) and it’s quite late as it doesn’t start until after Beavers. He finishes at 8.45, which is 45 minutes past his normal lights out. He comes home all pumped up and it’s difficult to get him into bed before 9.15. It’s a very late night for a Monday, but he does tend to sleep a bit later on a Tuesday morning as a consequence.
At last he’s been allowed to make his promise and he is now a fully fledged cub scout. This week I had the first set of badges to sew onto his cub jumper. He’s done his Road Safety badge as well as his Musician level 1 badge. Now I’ve got to sew them on – is that the best way? Anyone have any tips? Got to work out where they need to go too – I’m guessing there will be some sort of guide online for that.
I’m really proud that he’s so keen on cubs. I have good memories of brownies and guides from my childhood and there seem to be lots of opportunities to do things with the cubs. H is very keen to go on his first camp, so I guess that will be the next big milestone.
