This week I had a great night out with friends when we went along to the VIP night to celebrate the opening of the Hollywood Bowl, Ladywood. It’s in Broadway Plaza near Five Ways and we got into the Hollywood theme straight away when we were greeted by Marilyn Monroe (a lookalike obviously). Everyone commented on how good the Hollywood Bowl looked as it’s newly done out, so it has that shiny and new look to it. It’s had a £400,000 renovation (the site was the former Bowlplex) and it’s now got a retro American feel.
There are 20 bowling lanes within a very stylishly decorated complex with a great retro vibe. There’s a Hollywood Diner and American-style bar offering house speciality cocktails for those wanting to relax before or after a game. As well as bowling there are plenty of other entertainment options too as there are four pool tables and an amusement area, with games like Jurassic Park and MOTO GP Bikes featuring alongside classics like Pacman, Crossy Road and Space Invaders. I love the fact that there are plenty of things to do and you can easily spend a wet afternoon or a whole evening having fun together.
No matter how often I go bowling, I never seem to get that good at it. This time I was in a battle for third place in our group, but in the end I lost by a few points. It’s great fun though and it made a nice change to go with friends rather than with H and his friends. It’s also less embarrassing to be beaten by other adults rather than a child (I think last time I was beaten by a 6-year-old). We had a great time and some of our group are planning a return visit very soon with the family this time.
