Day 4 – Has it gone?

chickenpox spots on day 4 of the illnessA much better night last night thankfully.  Not sure if this was due to the Eurax or whether H is just getting over the chickenpox.

His spots seem to have crusted over or never really developed.  We tried another bicarbonate of soda bath this morning and some Eurax, but not sure either was necessary.  What do veterans of chickenpox think?  Is my boy safe to go out in public again?  Could I get away with Pre-School tomorrow?

  1. According to my mum (my go-to gal for all childhood type illnesses) when the spots go scabby then they’re no longer infectious. I had chicken pox before I reached school age, can’t really remember much apart from sitting in a bath of bicarbonate of soda and feeling very uncomfortably itchy… Poor Henry, hope he hasn’t felt too out of sorts, in a way it’s lucky he had it now – it’s going around here too, but not sure I want my 5 month old girl to get it or not!!

Thanks for the info – I think they are scabby. Luckily Henry has been very well with it and hasn’t had too many spots – a mild case I think. Friends who have had babies with chickenpox say that they are often worse with it than toddlers/preschoolers especially as the spots tend to cluster around the nappy area.

  2. Ah good point, don’t really want Moo to have it now anyway – she’s miserable enough as it is with teething etc, got a feeling itchy spots wouldn’t go down too well…! Glad Henry is better, must be a relief to get it all over with :)
