It’s been a bit of a hard slog of a half term. H seems to have been full of cold for much of it and whilst he hasn’t had any time off, he hasn’t been on top form. He’s been excited about his concert performance too, but not that’s over, there didn’t seem much to look forward to except the half term holiday. This half term we were invited to celebrate school being out at the Hollywood Bowl.
We went along with some of H’s friends and the kids did all take it very seriously: selecting their balls, lining up their frame. It paid off too as H stormed away to an early lead thanks to a strike on his first go. It was a tightly fought match, between the children at least, as I slipped behind slowly and then dramatically with an appalling turn where I scored just 3. In the end I found myself soundly beaten by 2 nine-year-olds, an 8-year-old and a 6-year-old, not to mention the other mum.
It’s not just about bowling. There was plenty of slot machine action with H leaving that area with armfuls of tickets and the chance to gleefully choose some toys from the selection at the front desk.
After all that hard work I think we’d earnt some refreshment, so off we went to the American diner-themed restaurant to have a nice cool drink. Rolling all those big bowling balls meant that we’d built up quite an appetite, so we finished our visit off with some burgers mostly (although there were other choices too) and H’s Kingpin burger looked the best of the bunch.
The meals were just about the right size to fill us all up without leaving any. I can see a trip to bowling being a regular end of term feature as it was such a big hit with all 4 children in our party.
