Recently, holidaycottages.co.uk got in touch to ask the question: What can you not bear to leave behind when holidaying in the UK? It really got me thinking. When we go away in the UK we usually travel by car. Sadly it’s often cheaper than public transport and it has so many other advantages. You have a way of getting around once you are there, you can stop where you like along the way and best of all you can take as much stuff as you can cram into the car. My husband often moans about how much we take, but we are able to get quite a lot in as we have a small family car and only one child, so there is all the space in the boot and half the back seat too. In baby days we could even use the space beneath H’s feet, but no longer now he’s getting taller.
So what do I take I’m holidaying in the UK, that I wouldn’t take on a foreign holiday say where I am subject to baggage restrictions? We load up with a bag (or more accurately a case) each for our clothes and bits. This makes it nice and easy at the other end as you just take the case into the right bedroom. If we go abroad we’d usually double up a bit, but it’s nice not to worry about that. I like that I can take some home comforts like a dressing gown and slippers.
I also like that we can shove toys and equipment in too. So we can take H’s scooter, his wetsuit, his beach toys, his body board, his roller skates whatever we need. That way we don’t have to duplicate purchases if we do end up on the beach or whatever. We don’t have to worry about the weather either: we can take the wellies and the sandals, the raincoat and the sunhat. Been able to take what we want allows us to make the most of the holiday and enjoy it to the max.
For us too it means that we can take enough electronic devices to entertain the whole family. After a long day of outdoor fun, we can all have some downtime. I can keep on top of my emails and my blog posts on the laptop. Mr Nine to Three Thirty can play scrabble on his tablet. H can do his own thing on his tablet. We have room for all the chargers and add on bits that we need. There’s no, if only I had that to mar things, you haven’t had to leave it behind. Bliss!
This is my entry into the holidaycottages.co.uk must-haves competition.
