They’ve featured before on the blog, but I’m not sure they have ever had their own post before. I’d like to introduce you to Amber (a gingery boy cat – cream burmese) and Bracken (a grey girl cat – lilac burmese), the friendliest cats on the block. Their official pedigree names are Dorevalley Bracken and Dorevalley Amberknight. We’ve had them since kittenhood and they are now 12 years old. Whilst they are not brother and sister they may as well be as they are only a month apart in age and lived in neighbouring enclosures at the breeders before we brought them home. Before we had H these cats were my ‘babies’ and they still are in a way.
Burmese cats have a reputation for being friendly and outgoing and these cats certainly deliver. These are the only cats I know that will get up from their comfy cat bed to come and investigate when they hear the sounds of small children in the house. Bracken in particular loves the attention that a small child will give her, especially one that is more used to cats disappearing as soon as they enter the room. They will put up with an awful lot of being picked up and carried around for the fuss that goes with it.
One thing I love though is the way they are together. They do have the occasional fight. Amber usually lets Bracken have her own way, but sometimes he cracks and because he’s a lot bigger than her, he can dictate. Usually though she’s the one pushing him out of the way to get to the food bowl and he’s the gentle giant that lets her. They love snuggling up together for a sleep and are more likely to sleep together than apart. I have some lovely pictures of the two of them curled up together.
