A little while back we were sent something I hoped that we wouldn’t get to use: a decongestant spray called Aqua Maris. Sadly, only a couple of weeks into a new school year and we have all been hit with a nasty cold. So we have got to try out Aqua Maris after all.
Aqua Maris nasal spray is made from purified seawater from the Adriatic. Purification is carried out to pharmaceutical standards for sterile production and Aqua Maris contains no preservatives or additives.
As a family we have been testing out the Aqua Maris Strong (for the adults) and Aqua Maris Baby (for H) products. It’s a rather strange sensation when you spray sea water up each nostril, but for a moment you could almost believe you are standing on a sea shore with a bracing wind forcing sea spray up your nose.
I tried using the spray in the morning when my nose felt completely blocked. It did clear the blockage almost immediately. Most of the time though, my nose has been dripping like a tap. Aqua Maris claims to have a soothing effect on the mucus membranes of the upper respiratory tract. So I tried it when my nose was dripping and it did seem to have a positive effect, but one that is difficult to quantify.
So overall I’m glad to have a natural product like Aqua Maris in my medicine cupboard arsenal against the common cold virus.
