Obviously with a toy that looks as cool as this Airhogs Zero Gravity Batmobile, most boys are going to want to play with straight away and so H did when it was sent to us for review. It did take us a few minutes to work out that it needed batteries and what type as we couldn’t find any mention of the batteries on the box (you will need 6 AA type ones). It would have been good to have them in case we’d needed to buy them in, but I keep a good supply of most batteries in the house, so we soon had that sorted out. You then need to plug the Batmobile vehicle into the remote control using a hidden wire in its base and charge for at least a few hours before you can use it. This was a bit frustrating for a nine year old, but as it arrived just before we were due to go out for lunch, we were able to get it set up and let it charge while we were out.
Once we got back the Batmobile was straight off on crimefighting adventures. The idea is that the award winning, wall climber technology means it can race up the walls and even onto the ceiling, driving completely upside down. The Batmobile follows the light up Bat symbol projected by the controller. The controller allows for five directions of movement and infrared sensors allow you to respond Bat Symbol when it lights up over the dark streets of Gotham and the Batmobile simply follows the light up Bat symbol. Our walls didn’t always seem to work very well for our Batmobile. I think the problem may have been that a lot of our rooms have some sort of textured wallpaper on them, but the car worked better on the rooms that we have decorated that have smoother walls.
I tried taking some pictures to show you the Bat symbol that the Batmobile drives towards, but with very limited success. It’s easier to see in the dark and we found the Airhogs Zero Gravity Batmobile worked better in a darker room anyway, but it’s difficult to get a good picture in the dark. You do need to charge up the Batmobile fairly frequently especially if it is getting a lot of use. H had his cousins around to play for the day during the half term break and they could not get enough of this toy with the 3 boy cousins all keen to get a turn.
