There’s something very joyful about watching your son jump around the garden, in the spring sunshine, pretending to be a pirate. H still enjoys dressing up and getting into his role plays, so he’s enjoyed trying out this rather superior pirate costume from Lucy Locket.
From the off it was clear that this was a much better quality costume than your usual supermarket fare. The fabrics are mostly heavy weight satin, which means that they don’t crease too much and they wash well (which is a bit of a novelty for dressing up costumes in my experience). I loved the attention to detail like the green lining inside the waistcoat and the fabulous gold buttons. The set includes six pieces: jagged edge satin shirt, black satin waistcoat, black and white striped trousers, neckerchief, eyepatch and sash/belt.
It’s more difficult to find costumes for H now he’s getting a little older. This one is age 7-8 years, but it’s generously sized and I think we will be able to use it for a year or two. The pieces of the costume are pretty versatile and I think we’ll be using bits of it for those school dressing up requests that seem to crop up each and every term.
N.B. Sword – Pirate’s own.
