I was invited along to afternoon tea at Caffe Concerto in Grand Central, Birmingham and took along Candace from Buckets of Tea so we could have a good catch up. Caffe Concerto has a prime position on the balcony above the station and it’s the perfect spot to watch the world go by. We found a prime position and sat down to enjoy our afternoon tea.
We settled down to catch up on all the news over some sandwiches. There was cucumber, salmon and egg to pick from. It’s quite a substantial tea, so don’t have a proper lunch before you go and expect not to have room for anything else for the rest of the day.
Offered a choice of tea, coffee and hot chocolate, we both opted for the tea option. It came in dinky little pots, which held more than I expected. That said, we did run out of tea before we ran out of food, so either bigger pots or refills would have been a nice touch.
As you can see Caffe Concerto served up quite a range of desserts with their tea. I would say though that the mousse served with the spoons was a bit warmer than I expected and we also found that the sandwiches and scones had got a little dry, so I think the tea might have been prepared a little in advance. I particularly liked the macaroons, which were very moreish and the chocolate dessert was very rich. Overall, it was a generous and filling afternoon tea and certainly one to stretch out of a couple of hours.
