I’m a big fan of picnics and eating al fresco. Eating food outdoors seems to make everything taste better some how and being outside always helps with working up an appetite to enjoy it. I love the fact that there is less to clear up too. It doesn’t matter if H starts wondering around with his food (as he often seems to do), as the birds will make sure that any crumbs don’t go to waste.
Higgidy Pies sent us a handy coolbag to pack our picnic food in and keep in the very best condition for our outdoor meals. Not only that, but they sent us some vouchers so we could sample some of their tasty food and try out their products on our picnic. Quiches are just about my favourite picnic food: they are so versatile and there are so many different flavour options so you can ring the changes. I’d heard of the Higgidy Pies brand before, but I guess I’d just thought they made pies, but they actually have a great range of quiches, plus other savoury products like sausage rolls and cheese slices.
We picked out a large Smoked English Bacon and Mature Cheddar Quiche to enjoy. I love that Higgidy Pies use top quality ingredients like lardons made from English bacon and mature cheddar. I usually buy free range eggs, but I’ve found that a lot of other products don’t use free range eggs (although that is improving now), so it’s good to know that Higgidy quiches are made with free range eggs. We also chose a Little Spinach and Roasted Red Pepper Quiche which is a lovely vegetarian option, but also very nice for warmer days or just for something a little bit different. Both quiches from Higgidy Pies were very tasty and had a homemade look to them which was very appealing.
